Townsend 12 25 Tractor 1919 Townsend 12 25 Tractor 1919 1919

 Townsend 12 25 Tractor 1919

Townsend 12-25 Tractor running at idle on the farm in early August 2008. This tractor recently completed a complete engine overhaul by Craig Anderson in WI and now runs like a top. Tractor engine has power operated exhaust valves, which you can see the rocker arms moving, while the intake valves are atmospherically operated. Magneto is a Splitdorf with manual impulse and variable timing. This tractor was the answer for the farmer who was use to a steam engine but wanted the instant power of a gas engine-thus the frame is of true boiler construction but is just the cooling tank for the engine-exhaust goes into a Y pipe in the front of the cooling tank which also has flues to draw cool air through via a venturi effect as the exhaust exits the stack. Enjoy!
